Iker Casillas admitted Angel Di Maria’s late goal against Barcelona at the Camp Nou was a lifesaver for his Real Madrid side.
The Spanish international pulled off a superb save to prevent Lionel Messi making the score 4-1 to Barca five minutes from time, with Madrid immediately going up the other end and Di Maria taking advantage of a Victor Valdes blunder to make it 3-2.
“We were fortunate and are managing to leave here a little less sad. I can’t say much more,” he confessed in a Press conference afterwards.
However, Casillas did show some sympathy for his international teammate Valdez who took one touch too many and allowed Di Maria to take the ball off him and prod it into an empty net.
“All of us on the pitch have our own strengths and weaknesses. Victor is very consistent and I don’t think you can criticise one specific action,” explained Casillas.
