Levante underdogs says Ballesteros

Levante captain Sergio Ballesteros reckons his team are underdogs ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Motherwell at Fir Park.

The game marks the Valencia-based club’s first-ever appearance in European competition and Ballesteros believes it is his team’s inexperience playing against foreign opposition that could count against them.

“We cannot be considered favourites as the first leg is away from home and we will be playing in Europe,” said Ballesteros at a Press conference,

“This day has finally arrived after us finishing sixth last season and we are going to enjoy the experience.

“It is something that the most optimistic supporter of this club could never have imagined and we are going to make history by playing in this particular game.”

The only sour note for Juan Ignacio Martinez’s team is the absence of midfielder Pape Diop, who has had visa problems and had to disembark the team’s plane in Valencia.

“It’s a shame but we understand what has happened,” said Ballesteros.

“However, this team is ready to overcome any kind of setback and we will have to put a brave face on things.”
