Casillas: Real deserved to win

Iker Casillas believes Real Madrid did enough to beat Valencia today, and reflects that he doesn’t remember much from the clash with Pepe.

Los Blancos had to settle for a point in their season-opener, after Jonas cancelled out Gonzalo Higuain’s opening strike, much to Casillas’ frustration.

“We had chances and we deserved more, but we were unable to find a gap,” the captain declared after the game.

“We wanted to start with a win but we haven’t been able to. Now we have to think about the next game.

“We had greater control of the game, but for a few minutes when we had become scattered and we allowed them to equalise.

“The players begin to feel it in August when they begin the competition. When we start to roll, the results will start coming.”

Casillas was involved in a nasty clash with his teammate Pepe in trying to come for the cross that Valencia scored from. Whilst the goalkeeper was able to play on, the Portuguese was forced off.

“It was a random action in which he is the worse off. He is in hospital and will be under observation. I don’t remember much about the action.

“When I went for the ball I realised I clashed with Pepe and when I regained consciousness I was already on the ground.”
