Tiago Mendes has revealed that Atletico Madrid are targeting a third-place finish in this year’s Spanish League season.
The Rojiblancos finished last term in fifth, as well as winning the Europa League, but Tiago has said that ambition for the coming season must be to improve on that.
“Certainly, Madrid and Barcelona will be up there. And then we have the other League, in which we want to be first and will we give everything to try to get into the Champions League next year,” he told reporters after training today.
“Looking back, perhaps the first stage of last season we didn’t win almost a single game away. If we can improve on that aspect and maintain the rest, everything will be better, but for now we have to think only about Levante and nothing else.”
The former Chelsea, Lyon and Juventus man has been appointed vice-captain for the coming campaign.
“It is very important. It is a sign that I am seen as a major player within the group, I can help the younger players and create a strong and united group.
