Villarreal striker Nilmar has agreed a three-year deal with Al Rayyan according to the Qatari outfit’s official website.
“Nilmar is set to complete negotiations that will connect him to Al Rayyan,” read a statement.
The 27-year-old has been coveted by a number of clubs since Villarreal suffered relegation from La Primera at the end of last season, including Lokomotiv Moscow, former team Internacional de Porto Alegre and Dinamo Kiev, with the latter having already signed Marco Ruben, his former teammate at El Madrigal.
However, Al Rayyan are understood to be the only club to have offered the price Villarreal were asking for the Brazilian – thought to be around €10m – with the others only willing to go as high as €5m.
Nilmar scored 26 times in his 85 La Liga appearances for the Yellow Submarine since a €16.5m move from Internacional in July 2009.
