Ruben makes Dinamo Kiev switch

Las Provincias reports that Villarreal striker Marco Ruben will sign for Ukranian side Dinamo Kiev this week subject to a medical.

The Argentine, who scored nine goals in 31 La Liga appearances last season, becomes the latest player to leave El Madrigal after the recent departures of Wakaso Mubarak, Jefferson Montero, Ivan Marcano, Gonzalo Castellani and Diego Lopez as President Fernando Roig bids to reduce the club’s wage bill following relegation last season.

Ruben, 25, joined the Yellow Submarine in January 2008 for €4.8m from River Plate and was immediately loaned to Recreativo de Huelva, where he remained for 18 months before returning to Villarreal to play in the B team.

In January 2010 he was on the verge of a move to the Premier League with Wigan Athletic before the deal fell through on the final day of the transfer market, finally making his Villarreal first-team debut one week later – more than two years after his purchase – in a 1-0 defeat at Real Mallorca.
