Paco Jemez: Sevilla wanted me!

Las Palmas Coach Paco Jemez has revealed he turned down an approach from Sevilla before they appointed Vincenzo Montella.

Jemez had already agreed to rejoin Los Amarillos and his side host Sevilla this weekend, with the tactician admitting he was ‘honoured’ by the approach.

“For Sevilla to ask me to Coach them was a moment of great pride,” Jemez is quoted as saying by ABC de Sevilla.

“It is true that they called me when Eduardo Berizzo was sacked, but it was just a case of bad timing on their behalf, as I had already agreed to join Las Palmas.

“Nothing was signed or confirmed with Las Palmas but my word is my word and I could not back out, I told president Miguel Angel Ramirez I would join them and I did so.

“Sevilla are a great team! A Copa del Rey finalist, fighting for a top four spot and playing in the Champions League against Manchester United – not many teams are still competing on all fronts!”
