Valencia want Atleti’s Vietto

Valencia have joined Southampton and Sampdoria in the race to sign Atletico Madrid striker Luciano Vietto , say reports in Spain.

According to Super Deporte, Los Che and Atletico discussed a possible loan move earlier this summer and despite the Argentine’s desire to leave Diego Simeone’s side, a move was then ruled out.

However, Valencia now reportedly are in a position to sign the 23-year-old permanently following interested from abroad in Southampton and Sampdoria.

Vietto netted 10 times in 31 matches for the Andalucians last season but did not convince enough in order for Los Rojiblancos to pursue their interest.

Atleti signed the striker in 2015 following a successful season at Villarreal, who had brought the Argentine to Spain from Racing Club in his homeland.

However, the attacker failed to impress in his one season at the Vicente Calderon – scoring just one La Liga goal – and is behind Antoine Griezmann, Kevin Gameiro and Fernando Torres in Diego Simeone’s pecking order.
