Bale: No fans no excuse

Gareth Bale insists Legia Warsaw’s empty stadium is “no excuse” for Real Madrid after Wednesday’s shock 3-3 draw in the Champions League.

The match between Madrid and Legia was played behind closed doors due to supporters being banned from entering the Polish Army Stadium turnstiles, yet while Bale felt it made for a “strange” atmosphere, it could not justify Los Blancos’ “loss of concentration”.

“It was a strange game, especially with the stadium. That’s no excuse, though,” the forward told Spanish TV, reports UEFA’s official website.

“We’re not happy with the result and we need to bounce back from the result.

“I think we had control of the game at 2-0 and lost concentration and if you do that at this level you get punished.

“We’ll learn from that and improve going forwards. We need to be better defensively and more clinical.

“We need to take the positives, learn from this and move forward.”
