Mathieu retires from France?

Jeremy Mathieu has reportedly informed France that he no longer wants to be considered for selection after the Barcelona’s defender’s sudden omission.

Mathieu was called up to France’s squad for the upcoming international break but dropped just as quickly for Valencia’s Eliaquim Mangala.

Consequently, Mundo Deportivo claims Mathieu sent a statement to the French Football Federation (FFF), officially documenting his retirement from international football.

Mathieu is said to be of the opinion that he has “no chance” of being called up for the 2018 World Cup and has taken this decision to focus on his club career.

The 33-year-old rushed his recovery from a knee injury to make himself available for Euro 2016 but was overlooked, reportedly leaving the player “frustrated”.
