Sergi ‘getting a taste’ for right-back

Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto claims he is “getting a taste for playing at right-back” after his two assists in the position against Sporting Gijon on Saturday.

Sergi has wasted no time in establishing himself as Dani Alves’ heir at Barca, and his performance in the 5-0 victory over Sporting prompted Luis Enrique to hail the midfielder-by-trade as the Catalans’ “best” right-sided defender.

“It wasn’t easy. We knew Sporting would pose an intense game, but in the end we solved [the match],” he said after the game.

“We struggled in the first half and also the pitch wasn’t perfect, but when we scored in the first half, we got the match on track.

“Every time I play there, I get used to it more. I’m getting a taste for playing at right-back.

“We came into the game from a draw at and needed the points.”
