Pique: No Espanyol motivation

Gerard Pique insists Barcelona “have enough motivation” to win La Liga as they host Catalan rivals Espanyol in their final home game next week.

Barca’s penultimate match against Espanyol has evoked memories of the 2006-07 season, when their title hopes for that campaign were ended by Raul Tamudo’s late equaliser at Camp Nou – also in Week 37.

Nonetheless, Pique commented after Saturday’s 2-0 win at Real Betis: “[Our opponents] will still pose us many difficulties, and we can’t wait for our rivals to let up.

“They have to let up in both [of their remaining] games because one wouldn’t be enough and [dropping points in both games] is difficult to imagine, so what we must proceed to do is win the two games we have left.

“We’re not used to having the midweek off, and games against Espanyol at Camp Nou are historically ones in which they cause us many problems and have hurt us on occasions.

“They beat us once when we were fighting for the League and they’ll want to do it again.

“Still, we have enough motivation to win the league. It’ll be our last home game and we have to win.

“When we had the League in our grasp, we spent all the advantage we had. Now, I’m sure we’ll win it, plus the double.”
