Cerezo wants Bayern final

Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo would like to play Bayern Munich in the Champions League Final – if his side get there.

Los Colchoneros reached the semi-final by knocking out holders and La Liga leaders Barcelona and Cerezo has spoken to Radio CRC, who asked about the team’s secrets.

“There are two, the Coach and the players. Diego Simone is fantastic and has created a very strong group,” Cerezo said, Marca reports.

“I had a good night. We played a beautiful game, we defended well and we are very happy.”

Cerezo was questioned who of the other three sides in the final four he would like to meet in the showpiece on May 28 – Bayern Munich, Manchester City or Real Madrid?

“I would like a final against Bayern because we want revenge for the defeat 42 years ago,” he replied, citing the occasion Atleti reached the European Cup Final and drew with the Bavarians before losing a replay.

The subject of the referee was raised too, after Cerezo was one of a number of Atleti representatives critical of first leg official Felix Brych.

“When we played in Barcelona the referee wasn’t very good, but this is football, if the referee sees something he whistles it,” Cerezo noted, Nicola Rizzoli having been in charge at Vicente Calderon.

“The game [on Wednesday] was very difficult for everyone but I think the result is fair because Atleti, on the balance of the two games, played better than Barca.”
