Bruno makes Villarreal history

Villarreal captain Bruno Soriano became the Yellow Submarine’s record appearance holder during Sunday’s 2-1 win at Eibar in La Liga.

Bruno played his 364th match for Villarreal at Ipurua to beat Marcos Senna’s previous tally as his side opened up an eight-point lead in the race for fourth place.

The midfielder, 31, has spent his entire career at Villarreal and is in the midst of his 10th season with the first team.

His loyalty was challenged when the club were relegated to La Segunda in 2012 and then became the subject of a €9m offer from nearby Valencia, but he opted to stay put and extend his contract until 2020.
