Konoplyanka: I want goals, not assists

Sevilla winger Yevhen Konoplyanka has admitted that he would rather score goals than lay off assists, despite two against Real Madrid on Sunday.

The Ukrainian set up Los Nervionenses’ opening two strikes in their 3-2 victory over the capital giants, but he made no secret of his preference for a starring role at Sanchez Pizjuan.

“I’m fired up from the win against Madrid and only thinking about winning the [Euro 2016] playoff with Ukraine,” he told Sport Express.

“Regardless of who your [next] opponents are, you become very motivated after beating Real Madrid.

“Next time, I’d like to score two goals instead of laying off two assists.

“In the build-up to our second goal, [Ever] Banega screamed louder than the fans, so I had no choice but to pass to him!

“Still, I’ll try to be the one who scores next time.”
