‘Barca had control, but no goals’

Barcelona board member Javier Bordas felt the team was in total control of the Copa del Rey tie with Villanovense, just couldn’t find a goal.

The sides drew 0-0 in the first leg and Bordas told the Press after the match that Luis Enrique was right to name a side of largely second string players and youngsters from the B team.

“The team picked was young and hasn’t played a lot. They fought well,” he said, AS reports.

“The team was there, but we didn’t get the goal. The team had control but didn’t get the goal.

“I wouldn’t have picked a different team, no. The season is long and we have to give minutes to those who don’t usually play. They’ve all done their bit.”

Bordas was also asked about the two-game ban given to Javier Mascherano for the red card received against Eibar after the Competition Committee found the phrase used by the Argentine was disrespectful towards the officials, rather than insulting.

“According to what the report says and after the sending off, two games seems fair,” Boras considered.

“Barca will respect it.”
