Masche facing four-match ban?

Javier Mascherano could miss the Clasico after risking a four-match ban for his explicit remarks to the linesman during Barcelona’s 3-1 win against Eibar.

The midfielder was sent off in the latter stages of Sunday’s game at Camp Nou for directing an insult towards one of referee Carlos del Cerro Grande’s assistants, having grown frustrated with the officials’ perceived leniency towards Los Armeros.

“I sent off Mascherano for addressing my assistant in the following way: ‘La concha de tu madre,’ Marca quotes the referee’s report as saying.

“Due to computer problems, the report could not be filed in the referee’s dressing room, despite repeated attempts, which included contacting RFEF support by telephone.”

‘La concha de tu madre’ is a form of profanity commonly used in Argentina but still understood in Spain.

Providing consistency is applied in light of Damian Suarez’s suspension for a similar offence as an Elche player last season, Mascherano could now miss Barca’s next four League matches against Getafe, Villarreal, Real Sociedad and – most notably – Real Madrid on November 22.
