Del Bosque: Spain appreciate Asensio

Vicente Del Bosque has responded to attempts to win Marco Asensio to the Netherlands by saying the midfielder is ‘appreciated’ by Spain.

An internet campaign sprouted up to recruit the half-Dutch Asensio to the Oranje, although it was reported earlier on Wednesday that there has been no official approach to the winger, on loan at Espanyol from Real Madrid.

“It shows that there are very good young players in the Under-21s, and of course Asensio is one of them,” Del Bosque said, AS reports, when the issue was raised in an interview.

“At the moment, Asensio is in the Under-21s and that means he is appreciated.”

Asensio has turned out for La Rojita but won’t be committed to Spain until he appears in a competitive fixture for the full senior side.
