Berizzo hails Celta response

Eduardo Berizzo hailed Celta Vigo’s response to going a goal down in the first three minutes after they left Eibar with a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Borja Baston’s third goal of season gave Los Armeros a lead almost instantaneously, but the Galicians fought back and earned a point thanks to another Iago Aspas finish, and the Coach refused to be greedy after the game, instead expressing his gratitude with the result.

“We recovered a point at a difficult venue,” he said.

“The match was difficult because we conceded inside three minutes and struggled to play the ball in the first half due to a lack of space.

“Eibar are a very strong and organised team. They hurt us from set-pieces, but we expected a game like that.

“In the second half, we wore them down with our movement of the ball, played in their half of the pitch and didn’t let them counter us.

“We could’ve won, but we played at a tough venue and appreciate the draw, given that we started a goal down and left with the feeling of almost winning.

“[On John Guidetti’s late omission] Guidetti fell ill [just before the game], so we didn’t play him.

“I didn’t want to play Iago Aspas from the beginning because it’s been a tough week, with a lot of games. I wanted to bring him on in the second half.

“We’ve found a way of playing which makes the players feel like protagonists.

“I saw intense movement of the ball from us in the second half, supported by good physical condition, and that’s how we wore Eibar down.”
