Bruno Soriano has claimed that Villarreal deserve to be top of La Liga in light of their “effort and hard work over a long period”.
The Yellow Submarine pounced on Real Madrid and Celta Vigo’s joint inability to win at the weekend by moving above them, courtesy of their 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid on Saturday, and the captain admits his side are basking in their achievement.
“We’re quietly savouring and enjoying [top spot],” he was quoted as saying Marca.
“Beating Atletico is a great achievement for the team and gives us great confidence.
“We’re very happy to be top because it’s a great reward for our effort and hard work over a long period.”
