Victor plays down Depor start

Victor Sanchez has insisted that, while acknowledging their promising start to the season, Deportivo La Coruna cannot afford to “get carried away”.

The Galicians host Sporting Gijon at Riazor on Saturday, with the side still unbeaten after three matches and in the top half of La Liga, and the Coach is urging complete focus on the task at hand from his players.

“Sporting work very well and have a great Coach,” he said at a Press conference.

“They’re a team who make a lot of sacrifices and are very well-supported.

“We must try to take advantage of any spaces we open up, so one of the features of our attack must be patience.

“There’s still room for improvement, but credit must go to everyone, not just the players on the pitch, because everyone’s working on the understanding that the common goal is the team.

“We’ll go for the win. Our philosophy is to keep improving because we understand that our players have the potential [to do better].

“We know many opposing fans will turn up, but I hope everything stays on the pitch. In football, you try to enjoy being with your team.

“The danger is to get carried away by the early-season euphoria. I feel the euphoria and optimism from the fans, and we’re delighted, but we must be very clear mentally because it’s so easy to slip up.”
