The RFEF reportedly wants to extend Vicente Del Bosque’s contract as Spain Coach until after the 2018 World Cup.
AS claims Del Bosque had been expected to step down after Euro 2016 and the trainer has himself said as much in the past.
It’s alleged, however, that Angel Maria Villar will run for re-election as President of the Spanish Football Federation and use an extension for Del Bosque as part of his campaign.
Del Bosque is said to be set on retiring next summer although could be convinced to stay on, and is thought to have appreciated the support offered to him by his employers.
Villar will press the issue when – or if – Spain qualify for next year’s tournament but won’t rush Del Bosque into a decision.
