Resino: ‘Espanyol clash definitive’

Granada boss Abel Resino admits the game with Espanyol on Thursday could be definitive in the club’s fight against relegation.

El Grana are second bottom of La Liga on 25 points, six adrift of safety, and Resino is calling on his players to give maximum effort at Los Carmenes in their attempts to beat the drop.

“The Espanyol match is the most important of the season and it might be definitive, but I’m convinced my team are going to give everything they’ve got,” the experienced former goalkeeper told a Press conference.

“Everyone is aware this is a different game. Football has given us a lot of opportunities but now we don’t have many left. There may be a before and after with this game and I’m calling on my players to give 200 per cent.

“Our away form has cost us dearly but at home we’ve been playing well, although we have lacked enough goals to achieve more wins.

“I don’t like to talk about luck but since I’ve been here we haven’t had any. The team needs some reward and hopefully that will arrive on Thursday.”

Resino also commented on Espanyol and stressed the Catalans are enjoying a really good season.

“Espanyol still have a chance of making Europe because they’ve had a great campaign. They possess some key players and have a good squad that has worked well together all year,” he said.
