Depor can beat Sevilla says Lucas

Deportivo la Coruna winger Lucas Perez believes the Galicians are capable of beating Sevilla at Riazor this weekend.

The Andalusians are chasing a Champions League place this season while Depor are just three points clear of the relegation zone, although Lucas told reporters he feels his team are capable of doing to Sevilla what they did to Valencia on their home patch.

“We are going to fight and stand up to be counted,” declared Lucas, who is on a season-long loan at his hometown club from Greek outfit PAOK.

“I trust in my teammates and why not? If we could do it against Valencia when nobody thought we could then why not Sevilla?

“Sevilla have a large squad, great players and a very different budget to Depor. They can bring players in from all over and will be coming to fight for the three points. I don’t think their Europa League tie next week is going to distract them very much.”

The 26-year-old is aware things near the bottom of La Liga are going to be tight until the end of the season, but insists Depor’s fate lies in their own hands.

“It’s very difficult for all the teams at the bottom, while Eibar had a great first half to the campaign but are now struggling, as are Cordoba, and we need to relax and not look at others.

“We must look at ourselves, at our own matches, and get points, because if we fail to do that I don’t think the rest will carry on losing until the end of the season,” he explained.
