Perez: Mourinho didn’t create this

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez says it is Carlo Ancelotti who has created the best atmosphere he has known at the club.

In a frank interview with the El Larguero programme from Morocco, where Madrid are playing in the Club World Cup, Perez was asked about the differences between the Italian and former boss Jose Mourinho, now in charge at Chelsea.

“Every Coach has his own particular style and he [Mourinho] still sends me the odd message. The last one was when we won the Champions League in Lisbon.

“He has his own life now in London so we don’t get the chance to see each other, although I still follow what he does.

“With him as Coach we made some strides in terms of quality. Mourinho has been in charge of some big clubs and he’s not a novice.

“Everyone has their own personality. I might like someone as a person but I’ve no doubt about his merits as a Coach.

“With Carlo I always wanted him in because I saw what he achieved at Milan, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

“He creates a great family atmosphere apart from doing a great job as Coach and this is important.”

Perez was asked about the persistent stories that Ancelotti would soon be penning a new agreement at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“It surprises me when I read the papers and there is all this talk of renovation. We only discuss these issues at the beginning and end of each season.

“This applies to both the players and coaching staff. We’d be delighted to renew his contract at the end of the season.

“What is odd is that we are anticipating a contract renewal so shortly after he has taken up his position.

“But he’s aware of this and there won’t be any problem,” he confirmed.
