Real Madrid linked to Inter star

Inter are set to step up their new contract negotiations with Mateo Kovacic in light of reported interest from Real Madrid.

The former Dinamo Zagreb midfielder has been one of Inter’s standout performers so far this season, with two goals and an assist in his 12 Serie A appearances, and has a contract until 2017.

However, according to Corriere dello Sport, the Nerazzurri are seeking to extend the arrangement with the 20-year-old for a further two years, strengthening the club’s hand in the event of any possible bid from Madrid or any of Europe’s other top clubs.

Los Blancos have been monitoring the player’s development closely and have been impressed with the youngster, leading to Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio planning a meeting with Kovacic and his representatives this week.

It is believed that Inter would demand a fee of at least €35m to part with the Croatian.
