Tebas plays down voting row

LFP President Javier Tebas has defended the voting process of the LFP awards after criticism over the winners.

There have been calls to make open the vote to transparency after surprise that Atletico Madrid missed out on major prizes despite winning the League.

Speaking at a Press breakfast on Friday morning – at which Atletico President Enrique Cerezo was among those present – Tebas said that there are more pressing matters to be dealt with.

He also explained what he meant when he told an interview that if the voting was open, Cristiano Ronaldo may not have won Player of the Year.

“What has emerged was only a cut of the interview,” he said, AS reports.

“I made a plea in defence of the secret ballot. Players don't want everyone talking about who they voted for.

"There has been criticism that we have to accept but we won’t reveal who has voted. There are things that worry me more than the votes.”
