James ‘wants to make Madrid history’

James Rodriguez has shied away from comparisons with Angel Di Maria, saying only he wants to make Real Madrid history too.

The Colombia international joined Madrid from Monaco following the World Cup, while Di Maria was sold to Manchester United towards the end of the transfer window.

Di Maria left having been part of the Madrid side that won the Champions League, picking up the Man of the Match award in the final win over Atletico Madrid.

Speaking after the 5-0 win over Athletic Bilbao, James was asked about comparisons between himself and the Argentina international.

“He’s a great player and he did a lot here, he made history and there is a lot of respect for him,” James said.

“Di Maria is much loved and I just got here. I want to make history here too.

“I have to run but I’m used to it. That’s what the Coach wants and I’m happy to do it because I’m happy here.”

Regarding the match itself, James took comfort from the performance of the team as a whole.

“It was a very good game. When we defended we did it well, better. In attack we have great players that create danger,” he said.

“Everyone was good and we concentrated and got five goals.”
