Monchi ‘dreams of Barca post’

Reports in Spain claim Monchi, Sevilla’s lauded sporting director, is moving towards leaving Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and wants a role at Barcelona.

Mundo Deportivo add Monchi, who resigned his position at Los Rojiblancos over the summer, only to be promoted to director general, has three years on his contract with Sevilla and no escape clause.

But Monchi is said to feel his time at the club is coming to an end, yet the only team in Spain he would want to work for is La Blaugrana.

Monchi spent time in London over the summer, learning English, and was offered a position by Tottenham Hotspur, but rejected the approach.

He is said to feel Barca are the club that closest match his vision of using the cantera to its fullest, with MD listing a few of the players who have come through the Sevilla set-up in his time: Sergio Ramos, Jesus Navas, Jose Reyes and Alberto Moreno, among others.

Barca have signed a number of Monchi’s discoveries, most recently Ivan Rakitic, with Dani Alves, Seydou Keita and Adriano having previously made the move.

Monchi will remain at Sevilla should he fail to receive a job offer that completely appeals to him, MD add.
