Simeone set for four-match ban?

Diego Simeone could face the wrath of League authorities after he was sent off in last night’s Supercopa de Espana.

The Atletico Madrid Coach was sent to the stands in the first half for berating the officials and then slapping the back of the linesman’s head.

And Marca claim this afternoon that LFP authorities could come down hard on the Argentine tactician for his conduct and for watching the match from behind the dugout – handing him a four-match bacn

Article 114 of their disciplinary code states: “Anyone sent off, whether they are a player or a Coach, must head straight to the dressing room and may not watch the match from the stands. A failure to do so is punishable with a suspension of one to three games.”

Normally, a suspension of three games would mean a Coach sitting out in the same competition, but League rules state that bans of over four matches – which could include Simeone in this case – would apply to other competitions.

The Madrid-based paper believe that the former midfielder could be banned from sitting on the bench for Monday’s game against Rayo Vallecano.

Or if the case isn’t heard in time for that game, the next League match with Eibar.
