Barca rule out midfield buys

Barcelona won’t sign another midfielder this summer, reports in Spain have claimed, after missing out on Koke.

Mundo Deportivo claim that the Atletico Madrid man was the player wanted by La Blaugrana but Atleti’s refusal to sell at €60m has led to Barca backing off.

Xavi Hernandez could be on the way out of Camp Nou but even if the playmaker does depart, Barca won’t add to the signing of Ivan Rakitic.

Rakitic was signed to replace Cesc Fabregas but not even Toni Kroos will be on his way in, MD claim, while Alex Song could still be allowed to leave if an acceptable offer is received.

The likes of Rafinha and Sergi Roberto have bolstered the options available to Luis Enrique and so the Koke money will be saved for other areas of the pitch.

Centre-backs are on the agenda, specifically Valencia’s Jeremy Mathieu and Paris Saint-Germain’s Marquinhos, while the signing of Luis Suarez remains high on the priority list.

A right-back is also under consideration and all told, Barca could spent more than €100m this summer, having received €33m from Chelsea for Cesc.
