Del Bosque: Still no decision

Vicente Del Bosque has appeared before the Press prior to Spain’s final World Cup game and gave nothing away about his future.

La Roja meet Australia tomorrow in the last round of Group B fixtures with both sides already eliminated and only the prospect of not finishing last in the table to play for.

AS report that at his Press conference, Del Bosque was asked about his future, that of Xavi Hernandez, Iker Casillas, an alleged incident with Cesc Fabregas in training and the reasons for Spain’s disastrous tournament.

“We want to say goodbye in the best possible way. I became more eternal after the game against Holland but after these few days we understand the situation, we came together and that’s made it bearable,” he said.

“It has been a football issue. The calendar isn’t an excuse. Maybe there was some physical or tactical aspect.

“I understand you want to know what will happen but everything has a process. We should make informed decisions for everyone, for the sake of Spanish football.

“If we have the confidence of the Federation and the work we’ve done the past six years has been good…something has been done well.

“We need to think and see what is best for Spain. I haven’t made any decision. It’s true I have the support of the Federation but that doesn’t mean we won’t sit down after the World Cup to see what the situation is.

“A lot of people have given me great affection. They’ve all tried to comfort me.

“I’m looking forward because I have great enthusiasm and excitement about doing things. Football is my passion and this is my profession.

“I have had very pleasant and hard times. In six years we have made very tough decisions even if people don’t wish to believe it. We have been making decisions.

“[Some criticism] has hurt me because it came from my home, from the website for Real Madrid or Madrid related and says I’ve been a puppet in the hands of Barcelona players and that really hurts.

“The rest is all myself. Those who think and thought we haven’t been good don’t make me angry. But in winning they have also been stubborn and have questioned my ability.”

Del Bosque was also asked about Diego Maradona’s insistence on referring to him as ‘the Moustache.’

“I think it’s a term of endearment,” he replied.
