Pizzi: Sevilla are favourites

Valencia Coach Juan Antonio Pizzi believes Sevilla are favourites for tonight’s Europa League tie between the teams.

AS reports, however, that Pizzi insisted his side have a good chance of going through from the semi-final despite the 14 League points between the teams.

“We see it in the point spread but we come with the hope of winning,” Pizzi added.

“I expect a very competitive Sevilla. They have a very good team, very good players, a very good Coach, and it will surely be difficult.”

Pizzi also referred back to the last League meeting between the sides, a game that ended goalless despite Valencia being down to 10 men for most of the second-half.

“Sevilla were unable to score and they remember that, so will try to play a good game and score,” the Argentine went on.

“Valencia have wanted to reconnect with this stage [of European competition] but it’s always difficult, not only for the football but the pressure of the fans.

“There is difficulty and virtue. Clearly we are one of the favourites for this competition but you never know in a game.

“We have the hope of going through and we are both in the semi-final on merit, but the situation in the League is a good way to measure who is best and who should start favourite. Sevilla deserve favouritism.

“If we do things the same as against Basel, the situation will be very favourable to us.

“This is the most important game of my Coaching career. We want to focus on the game, have the best performance, get a result and see if we can move to the final, which would be very important for the club and the staff.”
