Jemez: Rayo gave their best

Paco Jemez believes Rayo Vallecano gave the best of themselves despite losing 5-0 to Real Madrid.

Jemez spoke to reporters after the match and said that while the defeat stings, he is happy to have lost while staying true to Rayo’s principles.

“Madrid have an amazing ability to hurt you and score easily,” Jemez lamented.

“Nobody likes to concede five goals but I prefer to concede five goals like that than concede three with everyone behind the ball.

“The team put in an incredible effort. I wouldn’t care if they score eight against us.”

Jemez added that if Rayo maintain that level of performance for the rest of the season they’ll record more good results than bad.

“This is a lesson for our remaining matches,” Jemez continued.

“We were at our highest level against Madrid and it didn’t work. But we won’t change.

“If we do things against Celta Vigo like we did today we’ll get results.”

Jemez was asked for his thoughts on the title race and while he declined to pick a winner, he revealed he feels the three-way fight is good for Spanish football.

“It will go down to the end of the season and this would be very positive for La Liga,” Jemez said.
