Barca consider Zubizarreta exit?

Barcelona’s ‘core’ board members are reportedly split on the direction to take with the club and whether to stick with sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.

Catalunya Radio allege that the board’s regular post-game meeting after this week’s 3-0 Champions League semi-final second leg defeat to Bayern Munich saw discussion on strategy for next season divided.

Where some in this ‘core group of board members’ are pushing for a moderate directive that maintains faith in the current set-up and squad, others are seen as keen to renew the squad with more drastic work in the transfer market.

This second group is reportedly gaining support and it has also apparently focused debate on Zubizarreta’s position and if he is the best man in place to oversee such a transfer strategy.

The former goalkeeper was seen as having been appointed to the role of sporting director, in place of Txiki Begiristain, at the behest of then-Coach Pep Guardiola.

However, with Guardiola now gone, faith in Zubizarreta is reportedly not as strong. Whilst the sporting director is believed to not to have been forced by management into any decisions in his transfer work, he could reportedly see more boardroom involvement in decisions made in the immediate future.
