Pellegrini: Sheikh must honour Malaga

Manuel Pellegrini believes that Malaga’s owner must now see through his commitment to the team’s players and to the project promised.

Sheikh Abdullah Al-Thani has withheld investment at the club since the summer, but this week is back in town and promising further investment.

Malaga’s players are due a late payment on money owed to them by the club in wages at the end of the month, which prompted Pellegrini’s comment on the situation.

“It is very important that he is here in the coming days. There is a late payment with the team set for October 31, and his presence ensures that he will comply with that,” stated Pellegrini in his Press conference this week before the trip to Espanyol.

“I think that the players have been delayed payment for many months and there has been a fantastic attitude on their part, leaving aside the economic issues completely to focus on the sporting side, the response has been in the field.

“Now it is the Sheikh’s turn to answer to the players. Hopefully as he said, he maintains his commitment to the project and provides new investment. Until we have a training complex and the academy has been realised, the growth of the club is limited.

“For me, the focus is clear, first is the performance of the players and then comes the development of their training through a new complex. There is much enthusiasm for the Sheikh’s words on this project.”

The Coach also ensured that focus for the players remains on the field, as this weekend sees them travel north to Catalonia to play struggling Espanyol.

“They are a very good team that is in a position that they do not belong in. Their Coach has spent many years working with the team and it is known that they play well.

“The important thing is that we have a good day and a good game. Espanyol have a particular style of play and it will not change much.”
