Barcelona have spoken to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta over possibility of succeeding Xavi Hernandez

Barcelona are moving ahead with their search to appoint the successor to Xavi Hernandez, who announced in January that he would be stepping down as head coach once the season comes to an end. Several names have been linked with the position, some more realistic than others.

While the likes of Hansi Flick, Thomas Tuchel and Roberto De Zerbi have been listed as frontrunners, Barcelona are also looking at other options. One of these is Mikel Arteta, currently head coach of Arsenal.

The 41-year-old has a strong affiliation with the Catalan giants, having come through the La Masia academy as a player. Relevo have revealed that talks have taken place between the two parties over the possibility of Arteta managing Barcelona from next season onwards.

Arteta called links with Barcelona “fake news” a few weeks ago, although in private, it is claimed that he has considered the possibility. For now, he remains committed to Arsenal, although the situation could change in the summer, if Xavi’s successor has still not been identified.
