Aged just 17, he has established himself as a regular starter in the centre of defence, often playing ahead of Inigo Martinez, who is 15 years his senior – this underlines the trust that has been shown in him by Xavi.
Like Lamine Yamal, Cubarsi could be about to take the next step in his career: making the jump up to international football. According to Sport, he has been included in the pre-list for Luis de la Fuente’s Spain squad for friendly matches against Brazil and Colombia, which take place later this month.
While it would be a very proud moment for Cubarsi to be called up, and if he were to be, he’d have a strong chance of being on the plane for Euro 2024, Barcelona will be wary of their player having too many matches under his belt at such a young age – something that has become a growing problem at the club in recent years.
