Saul criticises Griezmann comments

Saul Niguez has criticised Atletico Madrid teammate Antoine Griezmann for suggesting the club could end up fighting relegation.

The French forward made the comments during an interview immediately after the Rojiblancos were held to a goalless draw by newly-promoted Leganes on Saturday evening.

That result followed another disappointing draw at home to Alaves on the opening day of the season, meaning Atleti are already four points off the pace in La Liga.

However, speaking to the media from the Spanish national team’s training camp, 21-year-old Saul said that while Diego Simeone’s team have made a poor start to the campaign, Griezmann should have known better than to say what he did.

“Griezmann needs to think about what he is saying,” the midfielder told reporters. “He either will or won’t say sorry but he needs to think differently.

“You have to think about where you are and what team you are representing.

“You can’t follow that line. It is true that after a match, you are hot and tired and everything comes together but you can’t say that.

“We have certain values and we can’t say that.”
