Atletico Madrid: Joao Felix wins 2019 Golden Boy award

Atletico Madrid starlet Joao Felix has won the Golden Boy award for 2019, the prize awarded by the Italian newspaper Tuttosport.

The trophy is awarded to the best Under-21 player of the year who plays in a European league and Atleti’s Felix - a club record €126m arrival from Benfica this summer - had been the favourite to land the award.

The Portugal international was chosen by a panel composed of 40 journalists from the main Italian and international media.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has recalled Portuguese star Joao Felix to matchday to face Granada this weekend.
 
The 20-year old has not featured for Los Rojiblancos since suffering an ankle injury in the 1-1 La Liga draw at home to Valencia on October 19.
 
However, Simeone confirmed that he underwent an intensive physiotherapy schedule during the interview break, according to reports in Marca.

Joao Felix out for Atletico Madrid for three weeks

Atletico Madrid’s attacking crisis has deepened with fears that forward Joao Felix will miss three weeks with an ankle injury.

A club statement has confirmed that the star forward is set to miss between two and three weeks with a Grade II ankle sprain in what represents a fresh blow to Atleti.

Los Rojiblancos have failed to find the net in three of their last six matches and the Portuguese teenager is one of their leading attacking lights.

Atletico Madrid's Joao Felix ruled out for three weeks

Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury dirong the 1-1 draw at home to Valencia.

The Portuguese international was withdrawn with 10 minutes to go at the Wanda Metropolitano, and a club statement confirmed he is set to miss the next two to three weeks with a Grade II ankle sprain.

He was taken to hospital for tests following after being substituted and will now miss Atleti's next run of games in both La Liga and Champions League action.

Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix (pictured) and Barcelona’s teenage wonderkid Ansu Fati are on the 20-player shortlist for the 2019 Golden Boy award.

There are a total of seven Spain-based players on the list including Real Madrid’s Brazilian duo Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes, Valencia pair Kang-in Lee and Ferran Torres along with goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, on loan at Real Valladolid from Madrid.

Atletico Madrid's record signing Joao Felix is set for his club debut against Getafe tonight.

The Portuguese international joined Diego Simeone's side this summer in a €126m deal from Benfica, breaking the club's previous record holder of Thomas Lemar, who joined for €63m in 2018.

Joao Felix can be world class at Atletico Madrid - Oblak

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak has spoken of the ‘huge talent’ of his new teammate Joao Felix, who signed this summer from Benfica.

The teenager made the landmark €126m switch from the Lisbon giants to Atleti this summer and has shone in pre-season with Diego Simeone’s side.

“We are still in pre-season but it is clear that he has huge talent,” Oblak told reporters.

“With talent like that he can grow into being a magnificent player, I am sure that this is the right place for him.
