Luciano Spalletti: 'Barcelona are the best'

Inter boss Luciano Spalletti acknowledged ‘Barcelona are the best’ and his side will ‘need to be at 100%’ to defeat them on Tuesday.

The Nerazzurri fell to a 2-0 defeat against the Catalan giants at the Camp Nou a fortnight ago but the Milanese giants are hopeful home advantage could prove decisive second time around.

“They’re the best,” Spalletti told reporters ahead of the match.

Luciano Spalletti hopeful Lionel Messi does not play

Inter Coach Luciano Spalletti is hopeful Lionel Messi does not play for Barcelona against his side on Tuesday night.

The Argentine has travelled with the Blaugrana’s squad for the match in Milan, despite not being given the all-clear on medical grounds.

“I am hopeful that he does not play,” Spalletti responded when asked about Messi’s availability, as cited by Diario AS.

“He turns Barcelona into a spectacular attacking force when he is playing for them, so we would prefer that he is not playing.

Luciano Spalletti instructs Inter 'to play with self-belief'

Inter Coach Luciano Spalletti believes Barcelona will stick with their 4-3-3 formation despite Lionel Messi’s absence on Wednesday.

The Nerazzurri boss has stressed his side must not focus on marking any individual players but instead using the ball better and playing with self-belief.

“Whenever you are facing Barcelona and the talent they have all over the field, one of the best teams in the world, inevitably they are going to be the favourites at Camp Nou,” Spalletti told his pre-match press conference.

Inter concede Modric defeat

Inter boss Luciano Spalletti has conceded defeat in his club’s attempts to sign Luka Modric. “Real Madrid will want to count on such a talented player.”

Reports in Italy had claimed that Modric wanted to join Inter, but Spalletti appeared to side with those in Marca and AS, which insist the midfielder will sign a new contract with Madrid.
