Javier Tebas re-elected La Liga president

Javier Tebas has been officially elected unopposed for a third term as president of La Liga with a four-year mandate.

The 57-year-old assumed the position in 2013 and his current role was set to come up for election in October 2020, but he confirmed earlier this month that he would be seeking a renewed mandate.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has launched a fresh attack on English Premier League champions Manchester City.

The Spanish league chief has accused City of ‘financial doping’ in recent years in order to achieve their success - back-to-back Premier League titles and they won all four domestic trophies in England last season.

The outspoken Tebas has been a long-term critic of both City and French champions Paris Saint-Germain - the clubs are owned by individuals with power in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar respectively.

La Liga hurt by new El Clasico date - Javier Tebas

La Liga president Javier Tebas has criticised the rearranged date for the league’s El Clasico meeting between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

The match had been scheduled to be played at the Blaugrana’s Camp Nou stadium on 26 October but due to the current volatility of the political situation in Catalonia, La Liga asked that the game be reversed to Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

This request ruled out in favour of a postponement as both clubs had rejected the switch of venue and agreed on a new date, along with the Spanish FA.

La Liga confident judge will rule in favour of US game

La Liga president Javier Tebas is confident he will obtain legal clearance to play Spanish top-flight matches abroad.

Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and La Liga have formally requested their December league game be played in Miami, while a similar request was made last year for Girona’s tie at home to Barcelona.

La Liga president Javier Tebas has underlined the importance of China for the future of top-flight football and revenues within Spain.

The league chief said that the nation was on an equal footing of importance alongside the United States for La Liga when speaking about revenue streams of foreign fans.

Javier Tebas hits out at 'prehistoric' Spanish FA

La Liga president Javier Tebas has hit out at his counterparts at the Spanish FA’s “prehistoric vision of our sport.”

The two football organisations have been at loggerheads over a number of issues, most prominently including playing La Liga games on Friday and Monday nights.

“Mainly they are questions of competition and power,” Tebas told France Football, as cited by Marca, when quizzed over the ongoing disputes.
