Athletic increase Laporte clause

Athletic Bilbao have increased the transfer release clause of Barcelona target Aymeric Laporte, reports in Spain say.

The centre-back will now cost €42m, up from €36, AS claim, with his contract due to end in 2018.

As well as Barca, the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are said to be interested in the France Under-21 international, who has for the third time had his stipulated transfer fee raised by Los Leones.

Laporte: A dream to replace Puyol

Aymeric Laporte has admitted he is flattered to be linked to Barcelona but stresses he has two years left on his Athletic Bilbao contract.

Sport reports that France international Laporte has told L’Equipe that talk of a move to Camp Nou has left him almost speechless.

“It’s amazing that La Blaugrana has been looking at me,” the 20-year-old said.

“When we’re talking about Carles Puyol, we’re talking about a myth of football.

Laporte ‘wants Barca move’

Aymeric Laporte is said to be keen on a move to Barcelona but Athletic Bilbao are likely to price the defender out of the market.

Sport reports that the France international is open to switching to Camp Nou but Athletic’s insistence that he won’t be sold would leave Barca needing to meet his €36m buyout clause, plus tax.

There is though a reluctance to do that from La Blaugrana as such a sizeable fee would eat into the funds for other purchases.

Marca cites a report from German publication Kicker that says Guardiola is pushing Bayern to pay €20m for the French defender.

Laporte, who turns 20 in May, recently signed a new deal to stay at San Mames until 2018. The contract is understood to set his release clause at €36m.
