Quique Setien linked with Shakhtar Donetsk job

Former Real Betis boss Quique Setien has been linked with the vacant post at Ukrainian side Shakthar Donetsk.

According to reports in Portuguese newspaper A Bola, via Mundo Deportivo, the 60-year old is on the shortlist to replace departing manager Paulo Fonseca, who has joined Serie A giants AS Roma.

Barca's Srna interest confirmed

Shakhtar Donetsk boss Paulo Fonseca has confirmed Barcelona have expressed an interest in signing his club captain and full-back Darijo Srna.

The 34-year-old has been linked with a January move to the Blaugrana to act as temporary cover for Sergi Roberto with current right-back Aleix Vidal currently out of favour at the Camp Nou and reportedly on the verge of leaving the club.

"I know of the interest," Fonseca said ahead of his side's Europa League clash with Braga in Portugal.

Emery: Make history against Liverpool

Unai Emery wants Sevilla to ‘make history’ when they face Liverpool in their third consecutive Europa League Final.

Los Rojiblancos have claimed the last two editions of the tournament and reached the final once more by seeing off Shakhtar Donetsk, 3-1 on the night for a 5-3 aggregate win, at the same time the Reds downed Villarreal in the other semi-final.

‘Sevilla motto is to challenge & dream’

Unai Emery insists Sevilla “will continue with our motto of challenging and dreaming” after Thursday’s 2-2 Europa League draw with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Goals from Vitolo and Kevin Gameiro earned Sevilla two precious away goals in their semi-final first leg, although their performance was marred by a serious injury to Michael Krohn-Dehli, and Emery felt his side showed their willingness to “suffer” for a third straight title.

“The two teams showed they deserved be in the semis,” he said after the game.

Krohn-Dehli suffers ‘horrific’ injury

Sevilla midfielder Michael Krohn-Dehli will undergo surgery on Friday after suffering a “horrific” knee injury against Shakhtar Donetsk the night before.

Krohn-Dehli appeared as a 59th-minute substitute during Sevilla’s 2-2 draw at Shakhtar in the Europa League semi-finals but was stretchered off just 13 minutes later after a clash with Facundo Ferreyra resulted in his left knee buckling and AS describing the incident in the aforementioned light.

EL: Shakhtar-Sevilla, Villarreal-Liverpool

Like their Madrid counterparts, Sevilla and Villarreal have not been paired in the Europa League semi-finals as Shakhtar Donetsk and Liverpool await them.

In a last-four draw which contained three previous winners, successive holders Sevilla must overcome 2009 victors Shakhtar Donetsk, while Villarreal – who reached this stage in 2011 – play three-time champions Liverpool.

The first legs will be played on April 28, with the return fixtures scheduled for May 5.

Madrid had already qualified for the next stage but now can’t be caught by Paris Saint-Germain, who recorded a 5-0win over Malmo in Sweden.

Ramos vows to return ‘stronger’

Sergio Ramos says he will come back stronger after it was confirmed the Real Madrid captain had dislocated his shoulder.

Ramos was injured in Los Blancos’ win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday night, suffering a heavy fall when he was challenged by Taras Stepanenko.

Stepanenko was shown a second yellow card for the foul and Ramos was replaced by Nacho shortly after, Raphael Varane having gone off at half time with a knock and Pepe replacing him.
