Playoffs: Numancia-Valladolid Final

Numancia will take on Real Valladolid in the Segunda playoff Final, with heartbreak for Real Zaragoza and Sporting Gijon.

Numancia’s semi-final with Zaragoza was finely poised at 1-1, but Pape Diamanka’s injury-time finish on Saturday dragged Los Rojillos through to the two-legged showpiece.

A day later, Valladolid had the easier task of preserving a 3-1 lead against Sporting, and they denied the Asturians a shot at a quick return to La Liga with a 2-1 victory at El Molinon.

Segunda: Playoffs decided, Cultural down

Real Valladolid and Numancia have secured the last two playoff spots in the Segunda, while Cultural Leonesa have been relegated.

Cadiz, Osasuna and Real Oviedo also had a chance of sneaking into the top six, but Numancia’s 2-1 win against Cultural and Valladolid’s 3-2 victory over the Pamplonans sealed the deal for the pair in question.

Numancia’s place in the playoffs was particularly notable, given they only pipped Oviedo by the virtue of a superior head-to-head and relegated Cultural in the process.

“It bothers me because I’d have renewed his contract, but the truth is that he’s given us few options, none even,” President Agustin Lasaosa told Cadena SER.

“Still, it’s understandable. Huesca are a team that, for both players and Coaches, acts as a stepping stone.
