Ousmane Dembele returns to Barcelona

Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele has returned to Spain following a rehabilitation programme in Qatar.

The French international suffered ankle ligament damage during Barcelona's 3-1 Champions League win over his former side Borussia Dortmund on November 27th 2019.

Following initial tests on the injury, the Catalan giants confirmed that he would not undergo surgery, instead they would look to implement an intensive recovery programme in the Middle East.

The Uruguayan international went under the knife earlier today, and the club have now released an official statement confirming that he will miss the next four months of action for the defending La Liga champions.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has demanded that the team improve ahead of their tough Spanish Supercopa tie with Atletico Madrid next week.

The defending La Liga champions kicked off 2020 with a 2-2 draw away at Espanyol in the Catalan derby, with Suarez and Arturo Vidal both getting on the score sheet at the RCDE Stadium.

Barcelona have kicked off 2020 with an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Catalan derby away at Espanyol.

Ernesto Valverde's side end the first weekend of the New Year once again level on points with their arch rivals Real Madrid, but edging Zinedine Zidane's side out at the top of the table on goal difference.

Valverde opted to include his star attackers Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez from the start, despite the pair only returning from holiday less than 48 hours prior to the game.

Luis Suarez confident on Barcelona contract renewal

Striker Luis Suarez is confident he will pen a new contract at Barcelona to take him beyond his current deal ending in 2021.

The Uruguayan international striker will celebrate his 33rd birthday in January and his contract at the Camp Nou runs through until June 2021.

“I are very happy at the club, where I have always given my all,” Suarez told Diario Sport.

Barcelona stars set for extended winter break

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde will allow his star names extra days off as part of the La Liga winter break.

The first team will all be away during the fortnight break from league action, following this weekend’s clash with Alaves.

According to reports in Marca, Valverde is also open to giving his South American players additional time off due to travel requirements.

Lionel Messi stole the show in their 5-2 La Liga win over the Balearic side, but the Uruguayan international netted a superb fourth goal just before half time.

Frenkie De Jong fed him inside the right channel of the box, and despite being closely marked by two Mallorca defenders, the veteran forward produced a spectacular back heel past Manolo Reina.
