Jose Luis Mendilibar backs Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde

Eibar manager Jose Luis Mendilibar has defended Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde from recent criticism.

Valverde's side returned to the top of La Liga with a 3-0 win at the Estadio Irpura, but he has still been the subject of criticism since the start of the season.

Much of the negativity surrounding the former Athletic Bilbao boss is connected to Barcelona's slip ups in the Champions League and Copa del Rey at the back end of 2019-20.

"Losing two games early on in the season, is not normal for Barcelona.

Ernesto Valverde: We passed the Eibar test

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has hailed his players for securing a valuable 3-0 win at Eibar.

The victory put Barcelona right back into the race for top spot in La Liga, thanks to a goal each for his superstar strikeforce of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann.

However it was the mentality of his players that the former Athletic Bilbao manager was most pleased with, as they navigated past an opponent that has traditionally caused problems for La Liga's big names in the past.

Antoine Griezmann: There is more to come from MSG partnership

Barcelona striker Antoine Griezmann is excited for the season ahead, alongside Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, following the 3-0 win at Eibar.

The trio - known as MSG - scored a goal each, and played a key role in each other's goals, leaving Barcelona fans confident that they will find the right balance for a successful season.

Injuries have disrupted the start of the 2019-20 campaign for both Suarez and Messi, and this was the first time they have all completed 90 minutes together this season - and Griezmann is happy with the early signs.

POST-MATCH: Barcelona go top of La Liga with Eibar victory

Barcelona returned to the top of La Liga with a straightforward 3-0 win away at Eibar.

Ernesto Valverde's side edged ahead of both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, who could go back above them with wins against Valencia and Real Mallorca respectively.

Valverde brought Antoine Griezmann back into the starting line up, in place of the suspended Ousmane Dembele, and the Frenchman turned in fantastic display alongside Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde makes five changes to the side that one that beat Sevilla 4-0 in their last La Liga game.

Ousmane Dembele and Gerard Pique are both suspended, with Antoine Griezmann and Samuel Umtiti coming in to replace them.

Jordi Alba returns at left back, with Nelson Semedo dropping out, and Clement Lenglet and Sergio Busquets in for Arturo Vidal and Jean-Clair Todibo in defence and midfield.

Barcelona will travel to Eibar on Thursday rather than Friday to avoid the growing unrest in Catalonia, report Cadena Cope.

It follows on from a report Diario AS that there was serious consideration to do the 550km journey by bus rather than airplane, but this appears to have been dismissed.

Barcelona must travel by bus rather than airplane to their weekend trip to Eibar due to the current unrest in Catalonia, report Diario AS.

The Blaugrana would normally travel to the Basque country by flying into the city of Bilbao and then travelling the remaining 40km to Eibar by a coach.
