'Di Maria the best in Spain'

Angel Di Maria is the best player in Spain and Real Madrid are aren’t treating him correctly, so says Cesar Menotti.

The Argentina international has been told he can leave Los Blancos having becoming surplus to requirements following the arrival of James Rodriguez.

But the 1978 World Cup winner believes that Carlo Ancelotti’s men are treating the midfielder unjustly.

“I think Di Maria should be considered as the best player in Spain over the past few months, outshining even Messi,” he told DPA Global Media Services.

Messi ‘can rediscover joy with Argentina’

Cesar Luis Menotti has said Lionel Messi will remember what it’s like to have fun now he is away from Barcelona.

Messi is preparing for the World Cup with Argentina and Menotti is quoted as saying that Barca has this season sucked the pleasure out of Messi’s life.

“I think Messi is going to come right back to the source, to the neighbourhood with his family and get away from the maelstrom,” Sports reports Menotti as saying.

“In Barcelona there is a lot of pressure and I think this has made him suffer.

‘Messi is mentally fatigued’

Former Barcelona and Argentina Coach Cesar Luis Menotti believes Lionel Messi is fighting to overcome a case of mental burnout.

Menotti, who led Barca between 1983 and 1984, has spoken to La Xarxa and gave his impressions of his compatriot.

“Messi has to overcome the sadness of poor performances and rediscover the joy, pride and passion it takes to play at a club like Barcelona,” AS reports Menotti as saying.

Cesar Luis Menotti has given his thoughts on some of the major topics in Spanish football, including Lionel Messi and El Clasico.

Menotti coached Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in a lengthy career, and won the World Cup as Argentina Coach in 1978.

Speaking to Onda Cero, Menotti gave his views on Messi, Neymar and Tata Martino.

“It was obvious Messi was out of focus, not fit and it was due to a physical rather than mental fatigue,” Menotti said.

‘The best are from Rosario’

Former Barcelona Coach Cesar Luis Menotti has backed Gerardo Martino to enjoy life at the club and commented on the growing connection with Rosario.

Martino is set to put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Barca to replace Tito Vilanova this coming Friday, when he will become the Catalans’ fourth Argentine Coach in their history and the first since Menotti in the 1980s.

For the veteran tactician, Martino’s arrival at the Camp Nou may be down to where he was born.

‘Mourinho will have to go if…”

Cesar Luis Menotti has suggested that if Real Madrid are eliminated from the Cup competitions coming up then Jose Mourinho ‘will have to go’.

The veteran Argentine tactician has made the assertion with one eye firmly on Madrid’s upcoming fixtures.

Either side of a League Clasico against Barcelona, Los Blancos play the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final against Barca and the second leg of their Last 16 clash in the Champions League with Manchester United.

Menotti criticises Madrid

Former Argentina national team boss Cesar Luis Menotti has criticised Real Madrid’s style of football under Jose Mourinho.

Menotti, who won the World Cup with Argentina in 1978 when the finals were held in the South America country, is not enamoured with the way in which Los Blancos go about their business.
