All hail the penalty king

Diego Alves may have left Valencia without much fanfare, but Sky Sports' Jon Driscoll is sad to see La Liga lose a little bit of its theatre.

With ‘Diego, Diego’ ringing around Mestalla and Valencia’s goalkeeper smirking, stalling and psyching, you could be forgiven for thinking the home side were never particularly upset when they conceded a penalty.

Diego Alves fee €300k

Brazilian side Flamengo paid just €300k to sign goalkeeper Diego Alves from Valencia earlier this week, it is reported.

Various Spanish media outlets have picked up on reports in Globoesporte that Los Che were willing to depart with the 32-year-old on such a low fee due to the high wage he commanded.

Flamengo’s compromise with the Spanish giants would be they would fully cover the goalkeeper’s wages, but that any transfer fee involved would be minimal.
