Real Betis sign Spain Under-21 goalkeeper Dani Martin

Real Betis have completed the signing of Sporting Gijon goalkeeper and Spain Under-21 international Dani, the club have confirmed.

The promising goalkeeper has penned a five-year contract at the club with the fee reported at an initial €5m with a further €1m in add-ons.

Martin will add competition for the number one spot at the club alongside Joel Robles, after Pau Lopez joined Roma last week in a deal worth in the region of €30m.

Sporting Gijon goalkeeper and Spain Under-21 international Dani Martin is set to join Real Betis, according to multiple reports.

Radio Marca and El Comercio both say that an agreement has been reached which will see the shot-stopper transferred for an initial €5m with an additional €1m in add-ons.

Ruben Baraja 'thankful' to Sporting Gijon after sacking

Ruben Baraja is ‘very grateful’ to Sporting Gijón for his year in charge of the club despite being dismissed this weekend.

Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Real Oviedo, in the Asturian derby, saw the former Valencia midfielder sacked from the role at which he was appointed last December.

“The results, we accept as professionals, determine the reality, but do not reflect the work done,” Baraja wrote in an open letter to fans on the club’s website.

Man City want Sporting Gijon's Pelayo Morilla

Manchester City have been scouting Sporting Gijon’s teenage winger Pelayo Morilla ahead of a possible approach, say reports.

The Spain Under-19 international has made two substitute appearances in the Spanish second tier this season and netted in the Copa del Rey win over Numancia earlier this season.

A report in the Daily Mirror say City boss Pep Guardiola has ensured the 17-year-old is being extensively scouted, while he is out of contract in Gijon in June 2020.

Eibar close to Sergio deal

Eibar are on the verge of signing Sporting Gijon midfielder Sergio Alvarez, according to reports in Spain.

The two clubs met with the player and his agent on Wednesday and a deal is expected to be thrashed out within the next 24 hours, with Eibar set to pay around €2m for Sergio – €2m less than the fee stipulated in his buy-out clause.

Playoffs: Numancia-Valladolid Final

Numancia will take on Real Valladolid in the Segunda playoff Final, with heartbreak for Real Zaragoza and Sporting Gijon.

Numancia’s semi-final with Zaragoza was finely poised at 1-1, but Pape Diamanka’s injury-time finish on Saturday dragged Los Rojillos through to the two-legged showpiece.

A day later, Valladolid had the easier task of preserving a 3-1 lead against Sporting, and they denied the Asturians a shot at a quick return to La Liga with a 2-1 victory at El Molinon.

Segunda: Rayo up, Barca B down!

A dramatic penultimate matchday in the Segunda Division saw Rayo Vallecano clinch promotion to La Liga and Barcelona B drop back into the third tier.

Alex Moreno’s 40th-minute goal earned Rayo a 1-0 win against Lugo on Sunday, which was enough for them to secure a top-two place.

Los Vallecanos were relegated to La Segunda in 2016 and could only finish 12th in their first season back in the division.

Eibar want Sporting's Perez

Eibar are planning to sign Sporting Gijon central defender Alex Perez this summer, according to reports in the Spanish press.

Perez has made 31 league appearances for the Asturian club this season and has played an instrumental role in their rise into the league’s automatic promotion spots.

The 26-year-old only joined Sporting last summer from Real Valladolid and Diario AS states Eibar will make a move this summer, having held interest in the signing last summer.

Rafa Navarro set for Sporting switch

Real Betis defender Rafa Navarro is set to join Sporting Gijon this summer regardless of what division they are in, say reports in Spain.

The 24-year-old has a contract with Los Verdiblancos until 2020 which was signed under sporting director Miguel Torrecilla, who is now at the Asturian club.

Sporting currently lead Spain’s second tier after suffering relegation last season but a report in Sevilla Info, citing El Comercio, states a principle agreement for the full-back is in place.

Trejo confident on Rayo promotion

Rayo Vallecano forward Oscar Trejo is increasingly hopeful his side and former club Sporting Gijon will win automatic promotion.

The Argentine forward joined the Madrid-based club at the start of the season after four years in France with Toulouse.

Rayo and Sporting occupy the top two spots in La Liga 123 and both are five points clear of third-placed Huesca, with seven games of the season remaining.

“My son has now gone to see me play in two games and I have scored in both,” Trejo told the Tiempo de Juego programme on Cadena Cope.
